NotebookLM Mindmap Exporter

NotebookLM Mindmap Exporter

Extract the mind map from any Google NotebookLM notebook in one click and export it to 8 formats — Markdown, JSON, CSV, FreeMind, OPML, HTML, plain text, and Xmind.

What is this extension?

Google NotebookLM can turn a notebook into an interactive mind map — but it does not let you take that map anywhere else. This extension reads the mind map currently shown in your notebook and turns it into clean, structured files you can keep, share, or import into other tools. It works entirely inside your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How to use it — step by step

  1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. It also runs in other Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave.
  2. Open NotebookLM at notebooklm.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
  3. Open the notebook that contains the mind map you want to export.
  4. Switch to the Mind map view inside the notebook (also found under Studio → Mind map). The mind map appears as an interactive diagram on the page.
  5. Pin the extension — click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin it so its icon stays visible.
  6. Open the extension by clicking its icon in the toolbar. The panel appears with a single main button.
  7. Click “Extract mind map”. The extension automatically expands every collapsed node first, so the full structure is captured. For very large maps, wait a few seconds.
  8. Review the results. You'll see the total node count, the maximum depth, the number of leaves, and a depth-distribution chart, plus a collapsible preview of the whole tree.
  9. Choose a format. Pick one of the 8 formats below. Hover over each option to see its file type.
  10. Export it. Click Download to save a file, Copy to copy the content to your clipboard, or Edit in Xmind to copy the Xmind-friendly format and paste it straight into Xmind.
  11. Find it again later. Every extraction is saved to the in-extension history (up to 10 entries). Use Restore to bring one back, or Delete to remove it — no need to extract twice.

Frequently asked questions

The extension can't detect my mind map (0 nodes). What should I do?
Make sure you have opened the Mind map view inside your notebook — the extension reads the mind map that is currently displayed on the page. If the map is large, give it a moment to finish loading, then click Extract again.
How do I report a problem?
Send the link to the notebook (or page) and a short description of the situation to miles704957@gmail.com. We read every message and will get back to you.
Why is there a charge?
We want to be upfront with you. Behind this extension are real costs — keeping it reliable, fixing issues, and adding new features. The fee helps cover these so we can keep improving your experience. That's why we offer a free trial first, so you can make sure it works for you before paying anything.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens locally in your browser. The extension reads the mind map shown on the page and builds your export on your device. Your notes and notebook contents are never uploaded to any server.
The exported mind map looks incomplete.
Click Extract again. The extension expands all nodes automatically, but on very large maps it can occasionally need a second pass to catch everything.
Where are my previous extractions?
Every extraction is saved inside the extension under Extraction history (up to 10 entries). Click Restore to bring one back, or Delete to remove it. History is stored only on your device.
Does it work in Incognito mode?
For Incognito, open Chrome's extension management page (Chrome menu → Extensions), open this extension's Details, and turn on Allow in Incognito.
